Donald Trump tried to rewrite history, but no one would accept his version of events.
The 80-year-old made a triumphant return to the United Nations General Assembly in New York City this week, his wife, Melania Trump, and White House entourage in tow.
He was ready to disrupt the meeting of international leaders with a fiery speech touting political dominance.
Trump put on a show complete with theatrics and promises to “annihilate” sworn enemy Iran.
His bravado never wavered as the venomous message was met with silence instead of applause.
At one point, his speech was so poorly received that an entire delegation walked out as he stood at the podium.
Nonetheless, Trump left the summit feeling victorious and wasted no time recounting his success to the Gulf Cooperation Council and Arab nations.
He came face to face with Middle East leaders after his General Assembly address.
The Republican politician appeared boastful as he looked around the room where representatives from Qatar, Jordan, and other countries seated to his left and right.
“I just want to thank everybody for being here, very special. I had a good time making a nice speech today,” he told them.
“I’ve gotten, actually, very good marks. They gave me very good marks. I don’t know what that means,” continued Trump.
Viewers were also dumbfounded by his takeaway.
“Not a single sound came from anyone there. No one applauded. Reps from Cuba and Iran left the room. That was it,” wrote one critic as another noticed, “The room was stunningly silent.”
A third onlooker quipped, “He’s so pathetically desperate for validation that he thinks they give out marks or scores.”
“He’s lying who in their right mind would compliment his speech that centered around killing an entire race of people unless their his sycophants,” noted a third person.
Two more people commented, “Obviously. That awful speech unified absolutely nobody except him and his own reflection. A truly spectacular masterclass in self-absorbed delusion.”
However, Trump’s thoughts became splintered as he looked around the room of world leaders. “Hello, Mr. Prime Minister. How are you? Doing good?” he said to someone across the way.
“Look at you people,” the POTUS continued. “It’s amazing I’ve gotten to know these people, and I’m here largely because I know how good they are; they’re great.”
The reactions from leaders seated at the table ranged from blank expressions to smug smirks.
Another detractor scoffed, “They all look like they are totally disgusted to have to hear him speak. ‘You people’ is a very disrespectful way to refer to heads of state.”
“The look on their faces say it all!!!” added a third person.
Trump later added a shoutout to the media to express his gratitude. “The media’s been very respectful. It’s been very, very respectful. We appreciate it very much,” he said.
Trump is at odds with the U.S. media after banning multiple outlets from the White House because of their unflattering coverage.
CNN, MS Now, and Politico filed a lawsuit accusing the administration of violating the First Amendment. The Department of Justice is asking that media credentials for affected reporters not be restored.
