Whoopi Goldberg is stepping away from “The View” for two weeks, but the timing of her temporary absence is drawing buzz after a heated rant on the ABC talk show put the longtime moderator in the spotlight.

Goldberg confirmed that she will be away during Wednesday’s episode of the “Behind the Table” podcast, where producers discussed her upcoming schedule without initially offering much detail about what viewers should expect while she is gone.

“We’re going to lose you for a couple of days,” producer Brian Teta said during the episode. “You’re going to be gone over the next two weeks.” 

The 70-year-old actress will not completely disappear from the show. According to Page Six, Goldberg will continue appearing on Mondays while former co-hosts Lisa Ling, Star Jones, Sherri Shepherd and Debbie Matenopoulos fill in during the other days of her absence. 

Her temporary exit comes shortly after Goldberg delivered an emotional on-air message aimed at President Donald Trump during the Sept. 16 episode of “The View.” Her frustration surfaced while the panel discussed a series of political developments before turning its attention to Trump’s ongoing dispute involving the Kennedy Center.

“I want all of this insanity to stop. I’m sick of this,” Goldberg said at the time, turning her attention toward Trump. 

Her comments came after the panel discussed a federal ruling concerning Trump’s name and the Kennedy Center. Trump recently failed to have his name restored to the venue again, after which the board appointed by him voted to close the center’s main building. 

The subject came up twice during the show.

During the first Hot Topics segment, the panel had been discussing FBI Director Kash Patel and changes to policies concerning qualifications for FBI applicants. The conversation eventually left Goldberg exasperated.

“I’m sick of it,” she says three times. “Republicans are sick of it. Democrats are sick of it. Independents are sick of it,” she said. 

She then addressed Trump directly, ranting about his recent behavior.

“Listen, you cannot have the Kennedy Center, man. It’s not yours. It is never [going to be]. Fix the war. Forget the building. Fix the war. Fix the economy,” Goldberg said. She questioned why Trump was focused on removing items from museums instead of paying attention to the American public. 

The discussion picked back up during a later segment focused specifically on the Kennedy Center.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin compared Trump’s reported response to the dispute to “a kid taking her ball and going home and storming off.” Goldberg pushed back on the comparison, arguing that the Kennedy Center was not Trump’s property.

“But this is somebody else’s ball! This is somebody else’s memorial,” Goldberg said. 

Goldberg continued by pointing to the way historical figures are typically honored after their deaths.

“It’s like you’re asking to put your name on somebody’s grave. What are you doing? Go to work!” she said. 

When Griffin suggested Trump should instead concentrate on matters such as the economy, Goldberg agreed.

“Yes, and people would be happy if you did,” she said. 

This isn’t the first time Trump and Whoopi Goldberg have been at odds, as reported by Variety. Their history goes back to the 1990s, when Trump hired Goldberg to perform stand-up comedy at his Atlantic City casinos. Years later, Trump criticized her comedy during his campaign rallies, describing her routines as “filthy dirty” and claiming that much of the audience walked out.

Goldberg later pushed back on “The View,” pointing out that Trump had hired her multiple times despite his complaints about her act. She said at the time, “Are you dumb? You hired me four times.”

Despite the timing, Goldberg’s upcoming absence is tied to a separate professional commitment. During the podcast, she discussed filming “Women Like Us,” a movie produced by Barack and Michelle Obama that also features Vivica A. Fox, Vanessa Williams and Jenifer Lewis.

Goldberg spoke enthusiastically about the project, describing it as a story about “change and getting older and having fun with your friends and people who get you.” She added, “It’s about finding your people. I’m excited to do it. It’ll be fun.” 

For now, Goldberg is expected to remain part of “The View” lineup on Mondays while the rest of the panel and returning co-hosts cover the remaining days. Her time away will allow her to focus on the film project before she returns to the daytime talk show.
